SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Roy Isaiah Williams, Sr. of Springfield, who passed away on February 3, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Roy Williams, Sr. was born in Chicago on October 31, 1941 to Gaynell (nee Graham) and Roy A. Williams; he graduated from Lanphier High School, where he lettered in basketball and football; he married Linda Douglas on June 4, 1988 at Monroe Street Christian Church; and

WHEREAS, Roy Williams, Sr. worked for the State of Illinois for 35 years, retiring in 2002 from the Prisoner Review Board; and

WHEREAS, Roy Williams, Sr. was a member of Union Baptist Church; he was a member of the C. Lee Carey Neighborhood Association and the Faith Coalition for the Common Good and was a former member of One In A Million and Eastside Pride; he was very active politically and worked to bring change to the Eastside Brick House Unit; he enjoyed music, sports, dancing, and spending time with his family; and

WHEREAS, Roy Williams, Sr. was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Preston McCrary; his daughter, Rochelle Denise Williams; and his grandson, Lamar D. Crawford; and

WHEREAS, Roy Williams, Sr. is survived by his wife of 26 years, Linda Douglas Williams; his 3 sons, Roy I. Williams, Jr., Michael (Doris) Williams, and Rodney (Charlotte) Gool; his 4 daughters, Tina (Tony) Crawford, Debra Williams, Donna Sloan, and Shaundra Porter; his 3 brothers, Allen E. (Carolyn) Williams, Lawrence (Carolyn) Fortenberry, and Preston L. (Toni) McCrary; his 4 sisters, Jackquelee E. (Robert) Sigars, Sandra L. (Donald) Williams-Mosley, Chryl A. (Lee I.) McCrary-Temple, and Carla McCrary; his 3 sisters-in-law, Patricia Patterson, Betty Williams, and Kelly Douglas; his 2 brothers-in-law, Ronald and Rickey Douglas; his aunt, Betty Jean Graham; his 21 grandchildren; his 33 great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Roy Isaiah Williams, Sr., and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Roy Williams, Sr. as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
