SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Tsuyako Liebmann of Chicago, who passed away on February 18, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Tsuyako Liebmann was born in Tokyo, Japan on August 16, 1926; she emigrated to the United States in 1955 with her husband, Paul; and

WHEREAS, Tsuyako Liebmann dedicated her life to spreading the philosophy of Soka Gakkai Nichiren Buddhism, which espouses the absolute dignity of every person and the realization of a peaceful society through individual happiness; she was a pioneer member of the Soka Gakkai International-USA (SGI-USA) Buddhist community in Chicago; she and her husband were instrumental in helping build the foundation of SGI-USA in Chicago, from using their home for meetings, to travelling almost every weekend throughout Chicagoland and 17 Midwestern states to encourage countless people; she was the recipient of many awards from Soka Gakkai International; and

WHEREAS, Tsuyako Liebmann was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; and

WHEREAS, Tsuyako Liebmann is survived by her sister, Ayako Sugiyama; many nieces and nephews; and many close SGI friends who were like family to her; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Tsuyako Liebmann, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Tsuyako Liebmann as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
