SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Perry Dean Mason of Rock Island, who
4passed away on February 7, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Perry Mason was born on December 22, 1926 in
6Dallas-Melcher, Iowa; his parents were Theron S. and Sybil B.
7Moon Mason; he married Marjorie Lea Glaspell on June 21, 1947
8in Davenport, Iowa; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Perry Mason graduated from Augustana College in
101950 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Perry Mason worked as a reporter-photographer at
12the Rock Island Argus from 1952 to 1965; he then served as the
13director of publications at Augustana College until his
14retirement in 1991; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Perry Mason was a member of the United States Navy
16during World War II; and
 
17    WHEREAS, During his school years, Perry Mason was the
18spelling champion of Marion County, Iowa; he was an excellent
19photographer, winning awards for his journalistic photography;
20he also loved to sing and had a wonderful baritone voice; at

1the age of 52, he ran the Boston Marathon; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Perry Mason was preceded in death by his son,
3Scott Douglas Mason, and his brother, Eldon Mason; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Perry Mason is survived by his wife, Marjorie; his
5daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela Anne Mason (Galen Tromble)
6and Cynthia Lea (Don "Buz") Gibson; and his grandchildren,
7Rebecca Coatney (Noah Newman), Robert (Erin) Coatney, Gabbie
8Gibson, Caroline (Marc) Hobbs, and Audrey Gibson; therefore, be
9it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
12family and friends, mourn the passing of Perry Dean Mason; and
13be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Perry Mason as an expression of our
16sympathy.
