SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Perry Dean Mason of Rock Island, who passed away on February 7, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Perry Mason was born on December 22, 1926 in Dallas-Melcher, Iowa; his parents were Theron S. and Sybil B. Moon Mason; he married Marjorie Lea Glaspell on June 21, 1947 in Davenport, Iowa; and

WHEREAS, Perry Mason graduated from Augustana College in 1950 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English; and

WHEREAS, Perry Mason worked as a reporter-photographer at the Rock Island Argus from 1952 to 1965; he then served as the director of publications at Augustana College until his retirement in 1991; and

WHEREAS, Perry Mason was a member of the United States Navy during World War II; and

WHEREAS, During his school years, Perry Mason was the spelling champion of Marion County, Iowa; he was an excellent photographer, winning awards for his journalistic photography; he also loved to sing and had a wonderful baritone voice; at the age of 52, he ran the Boston Marathon; and

WHEREAS, Perry Mason was preceded in death by his son, Scott Douglas Mason, and his brother, Eldon Mason; and

WHEREAS, Perry Mason is survived by his wife, Marjorie; his daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela Anne Mason (Galen Tromble) and Cynthia Lea (Don "Buz") Gibson; and his grandchildren, Rebecca Coatney (Noah Newman), Robert (Erin) Coatney, Gabbie Gibson, Caroline (Marc) Hobbs, and Audrey Gibson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Perry Dean Mason; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Perry Mason as an expression of our sympathy.
