SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of James Therry, formerly of North Chicago/Waukegan, who passed away on February 1, 2016; and

WHEREAS, James Therry was born on April 19, 1933; his parents were Robert and Catherine Therry; and

WHEREAS, James Therry was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the United States Army; and

WHEREAS, James Therry received his undergraduate degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, his master's degree from Fordham University in New York City, and his Ph.D. from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.; and

WHEREAS, James Therry was a Professor of American History at Prince George's College in Upper Marlboro, Maryland; after retiring in 1994, he and his wife moved to Strawberry Plains, Tennessee; and

WHEREAS, James Therry was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Knoxville and enjoyed woodworking; and

WHEREAS, James Therry was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Shirley; and his sister, Rita Robinson; and his brother-in-law, John Salata; and

WHEREAS, James Therry is survived by his wife, Brenda; his son, James (Marina) Therry; his brother, Robert E. (Roberta) Therry; his sisters, Loretta Salata and Christine (Manny) Gonzales; his godmother, Jean Belski; and his many loving nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of James Therry; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of James Therry as an expression of our sympathy.
