SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of John R. Goldrick of Bloomington, who passed away on September 22, 2015; and

WHEREAS, John Goldrick was born in Blue Island on July 23, 1929 to John Edward and Kathleen Bentson Goldrick; he served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict; he obtained a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science from Loyola University Chicago, and a Juris Doctor from San Gabriel University; he married Betty Lowery in 1952 in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, John Goldrick had a long and distinguished career in the newspaper industry, including working for both the Chicago Tribune and the Waukegan News-Sun, before joining the Bloomington Pantagraph as publisher and chief operations officer in 1984; upon his retirement from the Pantagraph, he ran Bloomington Gold and the McLean County Special Olympics and worked for the Community and Economic Development Foundation of Ford County; and

WHEREAS, John Goldrick's extensive community involvement included past President of the Bloomington-Normal Chamber of Commerce, member of Central Illinois Development Partnership, Trustee for Illinois Wesleyan University, and past Chairman of the United Way of Bloomington; and

WHEREAS, John Goldrick was an avid reader, a car enthusiast, and loved the city of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, John Goldrick was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty; his son, Kevin; and his grandson, Shawn; and

WHEREAS, John Goldrick is survived by his wife, Helen; his 4 children, Elizabeth (Glen Dolgner) Goldrick, Susan Goldrick Cook, Sarah (Michael Sells) Goldrick, and J. Brian (Kim) Goldrick; and his 7 grandchildren, Matthew, Joseph, Heather, Nicole, Tyler, Adam, and Emily; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of John R. Goldrick, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John Goldrick as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
