SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John R. Goldrick of Bloomington, who
4passed away on September 22, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Goldrick was born in Blue Island on July 23,
61929 to John Edward and Kathleen Bentson Goldrick; he served
7his country in the United States Army during the Korean
8Conflict; he obtained a Bachelor of Science and a Master of
9Science from Loyola University Chicago, and a Juris Doctor from
10San Gabriel University; he married Betty Lowery in 1952 in
11Chicago; and
 
12    WHEREAS, John Goldrick had a long and distinguished career
13in the newspaper industry, including working for both the
14Chicago Tribune and the Waukegan News-Sun, before joining the
15Bloomington Pantagraph as publisher and chief operations
16officer in 1984; upon his retirement from the Pantagraph, he
17ran Bloomington Gold and the McLean County Special Olympics and
18worked for the Community and Economic Development Foundation of
19Ford County; and
 
20    WHEREAS, John Goldrick's extensive community involvement
21included past President of the Bloomington-Normal Chamber of
22Commerce, member of Central Illinois Development Partnership,

1Trustee for Illinois Wesleyan University, and past Chairman of
2the United Way of Bloomington; and
 
3    WHEREAS, John Goldrick was an avid reader, a car
4enthusiast, and loved the city of Chicago; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Goldrick was preceded in death by his first
6wife, Betty; his son, Kevin; and his grandson, Shawn; and
 
7    WHEREAS, John Goldrick is survived by his wife, Helen; his
84 children, Elizabeth (Glen Dolgner) Goldrick, Susan Goldrick
9Cook, Sarah (Michael Sells) Goldrick, and J. Brian (Kim)
10Goldrick; and his 7 grandchildren, Matthew, Joseph, Heather,
11Nicole, Tyler, Adam, and Emily; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14John R. Goldrick, and extend our sincere condolences to his
15family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of John Goldrick as an expression of
19our deepest sympathy.
