SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Chief Warrant Officer 2 Kevin Mose Weiss
4of Clarksville, Tennessee, who passed away on December 2, 2015;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Kevin Weiss was born to Kevin and Susan Weiss; he
7attended McHenry public schools through the 4th grade and then
8was home-schooled until his sophomore year of high school, when
9he briefly attended McHenry High School East Campus and then
10Christian Liberty Academy in Arlington Heights, where he
11graduated in 2001; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Kevin Weiss enlisted in the United States Army in
132003; he served his country and pursued his dream of flying the
14Army's Apache helicopters; he completed training after earning
15a spot in Warrant Officer Candidate School in 2011 and was
16deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring
17Freedom in 2014; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Kevin Weiss earned numerous decorations and
19commendations, including the Air Medal; 3 Army commendation
20medals; the Joint Service Achievement Medal; 2 Army Achievement
21medals; Combat Action, Army Aviator, Air Assault, and
22Parachutist badges; the Ranger tab; and numerous campaign and

1service awards; and
 
2    WHEREAS, During his youth, Kevin Weiss delivered the
3Northwest Herald and worked at the McHenry Dam concession
4stand, where, at age 15, he was recognized for rescuing a trio
5of fishermen after their boat capsized on the Fox River; he
6also worked at Bjorkman's Ace Hardware and Adams Outdoor Power
7Equipment, among other jobs; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Kevin Weiss enjoyed hunting, target shooting,
9swimming, boating, water skiing, and driving motorcycles; he
10was a skilled mechanic and all-around handyman, who often
11helped repair cars and more for his family and friends; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Kevin Weiss was preceded in death by his
13grandparents, Robert and Fran Mertins and H. Howard "Mose" and
14Jane Weiss; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Kevin Weiss is survived by his wife of 12 years,
16Beth; his children, Lucas Mose and Susan Jane; his parents,
17Kevin and Susan Weiss; his siblings, Joe, Sally, Ben, Nellie,
18Jessie, Rosie, and Lisa; his parents-in-law, John and Gloria
19Baran; his uncles, Eric (Mery) Wyss and Robert Mertins; his
20aunt, Cynthia Wolf; his cousins, Chance Nabar, Colton Mertins,
21Carson, Dayton, and Calder Wyss, and Niesha and Adrian Boyer;
22and other distant relatives; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
3Chief Warrant Officer 2 Kevin Mose Weiss, and extend our
4sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
5and loved him; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Kevin Weiss as an expression of our
8deepest sympathy.
