SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Glenn E. "Pete" Peterson of McHenry, who
4passed away on December 1, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Glenn Peterson was born in Woodstock on October
627, 1925 to Glenn and Frances (nee Petersen) Peterson; he
7graduated from McHenry Community High School in 1943 and served
8in the United States Navy during World War II from January of
91943 until June of 1946; he married Berniece Blake on October
1012, 1950 at St. Mary's Church in McHenry; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Glenn Peterson owned and operated the McHenry
12Bakery from 1958 until 1970; after putting his baker's hat
13away, he became an employee of the City of McHenry in 1970,
14where he was Building and Zoning officer; in 1976, he went to
15work for the County of McHenry in the Building and Zoning
16Department, where he later became the Director of the
17Department before retiring in 1988; and
 
18    WHEREAS, For 30 years from 1955 to 1986, Glenn Peterson was
19a member of the McHenry Township Fire Protection District, for
20which he served the last 17 years as Fire Chief; during his
21tenure with the District, he pursued advanced training in fire
22operations, safety, and arson investigation, taking many

1courses and receiving certificates of completion from the
2University of Illinois; he was a member of the McHenry County
3Fire Chiefs Association, the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association,
4and the International Fire Chiefs Association; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Glenn Peterson was a longtime member of St. Mary's
6Catholic Church in McHenry and Catholic Order of Foresters
7#594; he was an Eagle Scout with Troop 162 and a member of
8American Legion Post 491; he enjoyed fishing with friends and
9especially with his son, Jon, and was considered the family
10handyman over the years; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Glenn Peterson was preceded in death by his
12sister, Carol (Bernard) Hamil; his mother and father; and his
13grandparents; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Glenn Peterson is survived by his wife of 65
15years, Berniece; his 8 children, Nancy (Tim) Downes, Michael
16(Laura) Peterson, Michele Peterson, Sandra (Tom) Sroka, Donna
17Peterson, Diane Peterson, B. Jon (Leanne) Peterson, and Mark
18(Audra) Peterson; his 12 grandchildren, Eva, Nolan, Erik,
19Joseph, Cordon (Ashley), Abbey (Karsten), Bryan, Melissa,
20Maddy, Danielle, Dylan, and Blake; his brother, Bob (Vilma)
21Peterson; and his half-sister, Judy (Dale) Katz; therefore, be

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
3Glenn E. "Pete" Peterson, and extend our sincere condolences to
4his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
5further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Glenn Peterson as an expression of
8our deepest sympathy.
