SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Betty Ruth Williams of Springfield, who
4passed away on November 24, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Betty Williams was born on November 13, 1947 in
6Springfield; her parents were Earl and Betty (nee Brents)
7Douglas; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Betty Williams graduated from Lanphier High
9School; she retired from Illinois Bell/Ameritech after 30 years
10of service; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Betty Williams was a member of Pilgrim Rest
12Missionary Baptist Church, where she was very active with the
13Missionary Ministry; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Betty Williams was a pitcher for over 15 years for
15the Patterson Quick Cleaning Service Softball team; she was a
16former member of the Eastside Brick House Unit for Community
17Needs organization and was very active in making positive
18changes in the community; she was also a member of One In A
19Million and Eastside Pride; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Betty Williams loved her family, her music,

1sports, playing Bid Whist once a month with her friends and
2family, and her special relationship with her brother-in-law,
3Roy I. Williams, Sr., and her friend, John Porter, Sr.; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Betty Williams was preceded in death by her
5parents and her brothers, Fred Henry Douglas, Donnie Lewis
6Douglas, and Earl Douglas, Jr.; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Betty Williams is survived by her children,
8Danielle (Kess) Roberson and Erik (Haley) Williams, Sr.; her
9sisters, Patricia (Oscar) Patterson, Linda Douglas-Williams,
10and Kelly Douglas; her brothers, Ronald Douglas and Rickey
11(Sandra) Douglas, Sr.; her grandchildren, Cameron Jones, Kamya
12Williams, and Erik "EJ" Williams, Jr.; her aunts, Thelma
13Douglas and Hazel Douglas; her nieces, Maliyah Douglas, Breanna
14Douglas, Jennifer Joiner, and Shondra Burnett; her nephews,
15Rickey Douglas, Jr., Matthew Patterson, Ronald Black, Terrell
16Goins, Christopher Hawkins, and Marcus Burnett; her special
17nieces, Katara Simmons and Theiya Herrin; her special nephew,
18Rickey Simmons, Jr.; and her many cousins and friends;
19therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her
22family and friends, mourn the passing of Betty Ruth Williams;
23and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the family of Betty Williams as an expression of
3our sympathy.
