SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1152

(As Amended by Senate Amendment Nos. 1 & 2)

 
3    WHEREAS, The pet industry and animal advocates oppose the
4irresponsible breeding of dogs; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Every year, dogs are euthanized due to a range of
6factors, including behavioral issues that make them
7unadoptable, geographic concentration, and public demand for
8certain breeds over others; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Responsible pet ownership begins with research
10and communication to find the ideal pet for each individual
11circumstance and pet owners need to be diligent in researching
12the background and breed requirements of any puppy they are
13purchasing or adopting to minimize the likelihood of
14relinquishment; and
 
15    WHEREAS, The State of Illinois should continue to ensure
16that dogs are bred in a safe and secure environment; therefore,
17be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we designate June 1,
202016 as "Healthy Puppy Day" in the State of Illinois in order
21to raise awareness of irresponsible breeding of dogs and its
