SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Hearl C. Bishop of Canton, who passed
4away on September 26, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Hearl Bishop was born on December 24, 1920 in
6Karnak; he attended Southern Illinois University, where he
7received his bachelor's degree and his master's degree in
8education; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Hearl Bishop served as an agriculture teacher at
10Eldorado High School from 1946 to 1961; he advanced his career
11into education administration when he served as Assistant
12Principal at Ridgeway High School in Ridgeway for 2 years; he
13later moved his family north and continued in the
14administration field as principal of Mahomet-Seymour High
15School in Mahomet from 1963 to 1966; while working in the
16school district, he worked on his doctorate in business
17administration at the University of Illinois; and
 
18    WHEREAS, In 1966, Hearl Bishop's career brought him to
19Canton when he was hired as the dean of Canton Community
20College; while at Canton Community College, he and many
21supporters worked tirelessly for 2 years to realize a
22successful referendum to see the college become a Class I

1Junior College in 1968; the college would later become known as
2Spoon River College, with the college's new campus
3groundbreaking beginning in 1972; he was selected to be the
4first president of Spoon River College, continuing his work
5there until his retirement in 1978; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Hearl Bishop enjoyed golfing with his friends and
7his sons, fishing, and playing billiards; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Hearl Bishop was preceded in death by his wife,
9Helen Ilene (nee Dickey) Bishop; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Hearl Bishop is survived by his sons, Dan (Connie
11Huttes) Bishop and Jack (Karla Hatcher) Bishop; his daughter,
12Beth (Philip) Chapman; his grandchildren, Amy Deakin, Emily
13Deakin (Faron) Harmony, Jennifer Bishop (Justin Hood), Katie
14Bishop, Matt (Amy Johns) Chapman, and Nikki Chapman; his
15great-grandchildren, Ashlyn Deakin, Dustin, Jadlyn, Victoria,
16and Faron Harmony, Hunter Hood, and Parker and Maggie Chapman;
17his brothers, Bill and Bruce Bishop; and his sister, Louise
18(Bishop) Eastwood; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
21family and friends, mourn the passing of Hearl C. Bishop; and
22be it further

3sympathy.
