SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is appropriate for us to remember the many
3sacrifices and contributions to the cause of freedom made by
4the outstanding men and women who served in the Vietnam War;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, United States Army Specialist Charles Irby was
7born on June 25, 1948 in Hillsboro; he was the son of the late
8Mr. and Mrs. Marvin L. Irby and the brother of Rosemary
9Fletcher, Marvin L. Irby Jr., and Larry Gene Irby; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Specialist Charles Irby was a lifelong resident of
11Hillsboro and graduated from Hillsboro High School; he began
12serving our nation in 1967; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Specialist Charles Irby was a member of the United
14States Army for a year, serving in Company B, 3rd Battalion of
15the 25th Division; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Specialist Charles Irby gave his life defending
17America's freedom on January 15, 1968 after taking enemy small
18arms fire; and
 
19    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois General Assembly wish
20to dedicate Illinois Route 16 along School Street from South

1Main Street to the corner of 22nd Street in Hillsboro, Illinois
2as the Army SP4 Charles Irby Memorial Highway to honor the
3sacrifice of Specialist Charles Irby and all Vietnam veterans;
4and
 
5    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
6Assembly pays honor and respect to the truly great individuals
7who have served our country and, in doing so, have gone above
8and beyond the call of duty to take part in truly heroic tasks;
9therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
12CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the portion of Illinois
13Route 16 along School Street from South Main Street to the
14corner of 22nd Street in Hillsboro as the Army SP4 Charles Irby
15Memorial Highway; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
17is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
18State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
19giving notice of the name of the Army SP4 Charles Irby Memorial
20Highway; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Charles Irby, the Secretary of the
