SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
225 ILCS 80/24.4 new

    Amends the Illinois Optometric Practice Act of 1987. Allows optometrists to employ or engage the services of any optical laboratory, without restriction, to construct, fabricate, manufacture, or repair optical lenses, ophthalmic lenses, other vision corrective lenses, including, but not limited to, progressive lenses and bifocals and trifocals, and prisms. Allows the optical laboratory employed by an optometrist to subcontract with another optical laboratory for all or a portion of the services, with the optometrist's knowledge. Effective January 1, 2017.

1    AN ACT concerning regulation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Optometric Practice Act of 1987 is
5amended by adding Section 24.4 as follows:
 
6    (225 ILCS 80/24.4 new)
7    Sec. 24.4. Optical laboratories. Optometrists shall have
8the right to employ or engage the services of any optical
9laboratory, without restriction, to construct, fabricate,
10manufacture, or repair optical lenses, ophthalmic lenses,
11other vision corrective lenses, including, but not limited to,
12progressive lenses and bifocals and trifocals, and prisms. An
13optical laboratory so employed may, with the knowledge of the
14optometrist, subcontract with another optical laboratory for
15all or a portion of such fabrication, manufacture,
16construction, or repair.
 
17    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect January
