HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the Auburn High School girls basketball team, the Trojans, on their first ever championship in the Sangamon County Classic; and

WHEREAS, The Trojans won their first championship in 24 years by knocking off top-seeded Williamsville High School, in a narrow 35-34 victory, aided by the skilled hands of Emily Jessup, whose 3-pointer with less than a second remaining ensured her team's victory; and

WHEREAS, Emily Jessup played a crucial role throughout the game, not only did she hit the game-winning shot, but she also led the team in scoring with 18 points, including 4 3-pointers, demonstrating a high and impressive level of skill and finesse for such a young athlete, earning to a place on the All-Tournament Team; and

WHEREAS, Katryel Clark's play throughout the tournament, including 5 points in the championship game, led to her being named the Don Hartlaub Most Valuable player; and

WHEREAS, Karlie Mackenzie and Hannah Smith also scored 5 points apiece in the championship game, further cementing the Trojans victory; and

WHEREAS, The Trojans are Emma Brown, Emily Jessup, Hannah Smith, Danielle Helms, Kayla Pacini, Karlie Mackenzie, Rachel VanBebber, Mackenzie Tanner, Kassidy Scherrer, Katryel Clark, Ashley Campbell, Rebekah VanBebber, and Taylor Bess; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the members of the Auburn High School girls basketball team, the Trojans, on winning the Sangamon County Classic; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we wish the Trojans all the best with their lives as they move forward from this momentous success and may they all have high levels of achievement in everything they choose to pursue; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Trojans as an expression of our esteem and respect.
