HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Patricia Ann Lewis of Chicago, who passed away on January 9, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Patricia Lewis was born in Chicago to Nathan and Mamie Murray on January 6, 1942; she graduated from Wendell Phillips High School and later received her cosmetology license from the Unique Beauty School; she also obtained her Associate in Business; she married John Lewis in 1961; and

WHEREAS, Patricia Lewis worked for the City of Chicago Department of Transportation, formally known as the Bureau of Curb and Gutter, where she was the executive administrative assistant for over 30 years; following her retirement, she worked at Lord & Taylor for 10 years; and

WHEREAS, Patricia Lewis impacted the lives of many people by donating to women's shelters in communities of need almost every Christmas; she believed in the importance of the political process and for many years she served as an election judge; she also registered constituents in her community to vote; and

WHEREAS, Patricia Lewis was affectionately known as "Nana" or "Patsy"; she loved family, and birthdays and holidays were her favorite times of the year; she enjoyed baking cakes and cookies and making detailed arrangements; she was a faithful member of the Original Wings of Faith Missionary Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, Patricia Lewis was preceded in death by her sisters, Rita and Toni, and her brother, Christopher; and

WHEREAS, Patricia Lewis is survived by her 3 children, John (Rosamond), Cheryl (Jerald), and Diane (Jomo); her dear and loving friend, Otis "Grandpy" Walker; her godchild, Amber (Kelvin); her 6 grandchildren, Jasmine (Zeric), Eboni, Tiffany, Lauren, Martin, and Alyssa; her great-grandchild, Austin; her honorary grandchildren, Asia and Autumn; her sisters, Phyllis, Jacqueline, Bonita, Linda, and Michelle; her brothers, Nathan, Kenneth, and Michael; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Patricia Ann Lewis, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Patricia Lewis as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
