HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Jay Michael, who passed away on January 8, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Jay Michael was born in Skokie on April 3, 1981; he attended Niles North High school; he earned English and American degrees from Richmond, The American International University in London; and

WHEREAS, Jay Michael was a founding partner and Chief Creative Officer of CEDARst Companies; his first major publication was at the age of 23 from which he achieved widespread recognition for interior design excellence; his company successfully reused existing structures to the highest and best use in today's market; he redeveloped over 1,000,000 square feet of space over the past 12 years; and

WHEREAS, Jay Michael's company, CEDARst, has been one of the most active developers of distressed assets in the Chicago market; under his leadership, the company received national notoriety with media and brand outlets such as Bloomberg, Bravo TV, CB2, Bloomingdales Home, Crain's Business, Chicago Sun-Times, Better Homes & Gardens, and Renovation Style; and

WHEREAS, Jay Michael served as a Board Trustee for Richmond, The American International University in London and was involved in several philanthropic organizations throughout Chicago, such as the Museum of Science and Industry, RefugeeONE, Common Threads, Heartland Alliance, and FLATS Studio; and

WHEREAS, Prior to entering the real estate business, Jay Michael worked for CNBC Europe's London Headquarters; and

WHEREAS, Jay Michael enjoyed living healthy, philanthropy, antiquing, traveling, and food; he was cast as one of 6 members on "100 Days of Summer", a Bravo channel reality show in 2014; and

WHEREAS, Jay Michael was a "lifestyle architect" and real estate developer in search of the world's best ways to live; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Jay Michael, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jay Michael as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
