HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Eira Corral Sepulveda of
4Hanover Park on being named Citizen of the Year; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Eira Corral Sepulveda has been a resident of
6Hanover Park since 1990; she was elected Village Clerk in 2009
7at the age of 23 - the youngest elected official in the State
8of Illinois; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Eira Corral Sepulveda has been active in engaging
10the community of Hanover Park through her involvement in local
11parishes and community organizations; she was appointed to the
12Cultural Inclusion and Diversity Committee for the Village of
13Hanover Park; she has worked with Centro de Informacion of
14Hanover Park in mentoring students from Ontarioville
15Elementary School and has been a committed supporter of the
16annual mental health fair; she organizes leaders in Hanover
17Park to coordinate community outreach events that include
18immigration workshops, consumer protection seminars with the
19Office of Attorney General Lisa Madigan, property tax relief
20assistance, and Surviving this Economic Crisis Symposium; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Eira Corral Sepulveda's professional experience
22has been with the United States Hispanic Leadership Institute

1(USHLI), a national, non-profit and non-partisan organization;
2she manages several of the USHLI Programs to develop Latino
3civic participation and leadership development for high school
4and college students, community leaders, and Latino
5professionals; she engaged and trained young leaders in
6strategizing a voter registration campaign and Get Out the Vote
7campaign that led to the civic participation for the 2008
8election of over 62,000 eligible voters in more than 11 states;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Eira Corral Sepulveda earned her Bachelor of Arts
11from DePaul University with a double major in Political Science
12and Latino and Latin American Studies; she has a double minor
13in Community Service Studies and Commercial Spanish; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Eira Corral Sepulveda will receive her award from
15Hanover Park Village President Rodney S. Craig; therefore, be
16it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
18NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
19congratulate Eira Corral Sepulveda of Hanover Park on being
20named Citizen of the Year and we thank her for her commitment
21to her community; and be it further
