HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives with to congratulate Commander Kristen Ziman
4on being appointed as the next Chief of Police for the City of
5Aurora; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Chief Ziman was born and raised in Aurora; she
7graduated from West Aurora High School; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Chief Ziman began working with the Aurora Police
9Department as cadet in 1991; she served 3 years as a cadet
10before becoming a sworn officer in 1994; she has worked in
11patrol, field training, community policing, and investigations
12as a domestic violence detective, before being promoted to
13Sergeant in 2003; she was promoted to Lieutenant in 2008 and to
14Commander in 2010; she has been a trailblazer in a number of
15positions throughout her career and has worked diligently to
16mentor other women in law enforcement, locally and nationally;
17she is the past President of the National Association of Women
18Law Enforcement Executives; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Chief Ziman earned her associate's degree from
20Waubonsee Community College, her bachelor's degree in criminal
21justice from Aurora University, and her master's degree in
22criminal justice management from Boston University; in

1addition, she is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and
2completed the Kellogg Women's Senior Leadership Program at
3Northwestern University, the Senior Executives in State and
4Local Government at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government,
5and the Senior Management Institute for Police; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Chief Ziman lives in Aurora with her spouse,
7Chris, and their children Megan, Jimmy, Bailey, and Jacob; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Chief Ziman's recommendation to be appointed was
9approved by the Aurora City Council on January 12, 2016; she
10begins as the new Aurora Police Chief immediately, making her
11the first female Chief in the Department's history and the 28th
12Chief in the history of the Department; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
15congratulate Chief Kristen Ziman on being appointed as the next
16Chief of Police for the City of Aurora; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to Chief Ziman as an expression of our esteem and
19respect.
