HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Dennis E. "Denny" Sexton on the occasion of his retirement from United Brotherhood of Carpenters Union Local 13; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Sexton is a lifelong resident of Chicago; he graduated from Washburne Trade School in 1968; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Sexton graduated to the position of Journeyman Carpenter on October 6, 1968; he then joined United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local 13 in 1964, becoming a third-generation carpenter; throughout his tenure, he functioned in many roles, including Apprentice Coordinator from 1987 to 1994; he is also a former trustee for Local 13 and a previous delegate for Local 13 for the UBC General Convention; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Sexton was elected to serve as a delegate to the Regional Council in 1975, appointed to be the assistant to the president and a lobbyist in 1994, and was elected to serve as Vice President of Local 13 in 2002; he served ably in all 3 capacities for many years until his retirement; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Sexton was a dedicated member of the Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters; he was an apprentice coordinator for the Council from 1987 to 1994 and Assistant to the President and Director of Intergovernmental Affairs and a lobbyist from 1994 to 2015; during the 98th General Assembly, he was instrumental in the creation of House Bill 923 and worked tirelessly to obtain bipartisan support for its passage; he also worked on numerous other employee safety bills; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Sexton is the loving father of Dennis and Robert, who are both fourth generation Local 13 Carpenters, and Sarah (Michael) O'Brien, and the grandfather of Ella O'Brien; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Sexton serves as a model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Dennis E. "Denny" Sexton on the occasion of his retirement and wish him continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dennis Sexton as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
