HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Gerald
4Hawkins, who passed away on September 30, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gerald Hawkins was born September 20, 1943 in Du
6Quoin; his parents were Enos and Patricia (nee Elledge)
7Hawkins; he married Ruth Heard of Pinckneyville on November 9,
81963; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Gerald Hawkins attended school in Sparta until he
10graduated in 1961; he subsequently served in the United States
11Army Reserve for 3 years; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Gerald Hawkins worked at Benson's Men's Store in
13Sparta and for Prudential Insurance before going to work in the
14coal mines; in 1974, he became the COMPAC director for District
1512 of the United Mine Workers of America, where he served until
16his retirement in 1992; he later worked at Chip Banks Chevrolet
17in Du Quoin; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Gerald Hawkins served as a Perry County
19Commissioner during the 1980s; he also served as chairman of
20the 708 Mental Health Board and as a member of the Perry County
21Housing Authority Board and the Du Quoin State Bank Board; and

1    WHEREAS, Gerald Hawkins served as an Illinois State
2Representative from 1992 to 1994; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Gerald Hawkins was preceded in death by his
4parents and his sister, Mary Gwen Falkenhein; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gerald Hawkins is survived by his wife of 51
6years, Ruth; his children, Jon (Amorette) Hawkins and Jane
7(John) Lysell; his grandchildren, Olivia, Calvin, and Grace
8Lysell and Lauren (Cody) Crowden; his great-grandchildren,
9August and Adilyn Crowden; and his many nieces and nephews;
10therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
12NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of
14Gerald Hawkins; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Gerald Hawkins as an expression of
17our sympathy.
