HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Wynell Verrett-Butler on
4the occasion of her 80th birthday; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Wynell Verrett-Butler was born in Homer,
6Louisiana on October 1, 1935, the youngest of 9 siblings; she
7graduated from Homer Colored High School; she holds several
8certificates of completion, including business administration,
9labor relations, technical communications, how to deal with
10difficult people, and many others; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Wynell Verrett-Butler worked for Spiegel, Inc.
12for 39 years; she worked her way up from a clerk to systems
13engineer and developed the specifications for Vision 21 credit
14systems; she was the only credit employee rehired as a
15consultant after retirement; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Wynell Verrett-Butler is an active member of
17Ascension St. Susanna Catholic Church, where she serves in a
18leadership capacity on many parish committees, including Chair
19of the Parish Finance Advisory Council; she is active with many
20organizations, including Gamaliel of Metro Chicago, Gamaliel
21of Illinois, and the South Suburban Action Conference, where
22she is currently serving as first Vice-President; she also

1served for several years on the Executive Committee of the
2Metropolitan Alliance of Congregation; she has been involved
3with lobbying for tax equity, systemic education studies and
4funding, the development of the first new homes to be built in
5Harvey in more than 40 years, and the redevelopment of the
6Ginger Ridge Mutual Housing Association and the McKinney Center
7in Calumet City; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Wynell Verrett-Butler is active with the national
9association of the Knights and Ladies of St. Peter Claver,
10where she serves as Junior Daughter Counselor and she recently
11received an award as the Northern District Counselor of the
12Year; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Wynell Verrett-Butler has a personal relationship
14with many of our elected officials, including President Obama;
15and
 
16    WHEREAS, Wynell Verrett-Butler is the widow of Thomas Pitts
17Butler, whom she spent 47 wonderful years of marriage with; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Wynell Verrett-Butler has 2 daughters, Mauretia
19Verrett Carter (Jarvis) and Ericka Michelle Butler, 11
20grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and over 300 school and
21community children who affectionately refer to her as "granny"
22or "grandma"; she has over 150 nieces and nephews and

1great-nieces and nephews and too many great-great-nieces and
2nephews to count; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
4NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
5congratulate Wynell Verrett-Butler on her 80th birthday and we
6wish her many more wonderful years; and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to Wynell Verrett-Butler as an expression of our
9esteem and respect.
