HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of John A.
4Killam of Jacksonville, who passed away on August 24, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Killam was born in rural Morgan County on
6October 19, 1923 to John S. and Pearl Bowlds Killam; he married
7Helen L. Cox on December 14, 1947 at the Lynnville Christian
8Church; and
 
9    WHEREAS, John Killam farmed and raised livestock west of
10Jacksonville for many years; he served as a Morgan County
11Commissioner for 16 years from December of 1986 to December of
122002; he was active as a lobbyist for agricultural interests
13and received many awards for his work in the advancement of the
14livestock industry in Illinois; he worked with the Illinois
15Beef Association for over 20 years, retiring in 1989; under his
16leadership, the first Illinois State Beef Checkoff was
17established in 1983; and
 
18    WHEREAS, John Killam was a fan of automobile racing and
19enjoyed antique tractors and steam power; and
 
20    WHEREAS, John Killam was preceded in death by his 2 sons,
21John Paul Killam and James Killam; his sister, Irene Killam

1McCollough; his infant sister, Mary Catherine; and his infant
2half-sister; and
 
3    WHEREAS, John Killam is survived by his wife, Helen; his 2
4children, Rob Killam and Lenore Killam; his grandson, John Paul
5Killam; and his 2 sisters, Angela Guthrie and Ruth (Larry)
6Martinez; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
9mourn the passing of John A. Killam, and extend our sincere
10condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
11him; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of John Killam as an expression of our
14deepest sympathy.
