HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Glenn
4Edward Young, who passed away on August 15, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Glenn Young was born in West Frankfort on March
611, 1928 to Lewis Ervin and Lillie Mae (nee Womack) Young; he
7enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II at the
8age of 17 and was assigned to the Bureau of Naval Personnel in
9Washington D.C.; he was awarded the American Theater Ribbon
10Victory Medal; he moved back to West Frankfort after receiving
11an Honorable Discharge as Seaman First Class; he married Betty
12Rose Bollinger on February 10, 1950; and
 
13    WHEREAS, After driving a taxicab for a while in 1950, Glenn
14Young started working for General Telephone Company, starting
15out as a lineman and later becoming a service technician,
16installing telephones and then a switching technician; he also
17served on the negotiating committee and as union steward for
18many years; he retired from the phone company in 1990 after 40
19years of service; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Glenn Young was a member of International
21Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 702 for 65 years, where
22he served on the safety committee and as election judge; he was

1also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American
2Legion, and the Moose club in West Frankfort; he was elected
3Denning Township Clerk for several terms; he was a very active
4Democrat precinct committeeman and served as Vice-Chairman of
5Franklin County Democrats for a number of years; he was also a
6member of the Wit and Wisdom Senior Center in West Frankfort
7and served on its board of directors; he was a rabbit and
8squirrel hunter and fisherman; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Glenn Young was preceded in death by his wife,
10Betty; his parents; his brother, Curtis Young; his son, Russell
11Young; and his granddaughter, Molly Young; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Glenn Young is survived by his 3 children, his
13son, Larry Young and wife, Linda, his daughter, Loutricia Brock
14and husband, Dale, and his son, William Young and wife, Cathy;
15his 18 grandchildren, Shana Young, Holly Powell and husband,
16Philip, Merissa Madden and husband, Tom, Shannon Geer and wife,
17Kelli, Carrie Young, Adam Young, Lea Brock, Robert Brock, Jason
18Young, Heather Young, Jeremy Young and wife, Miranda, Sarah
19McCollum and husband, Kyle, Megan Young and fiancé, Jarad
20Champlin, Jesse Young, Grace Young, Jake Young, and Josh Young;
21and his 10 great-grandchildren.; therefore, be it
 
22    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
23NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we

1mourn the passing of Glenn Edward Young, and extend our sincere
2condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
3him; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of Glenn Young as an expression of our
6deepest sympathy.
