HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Yoshi
4Katsumura of Chicago, who passed away on August 2, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Yoshi Katsumura was the owner and chef of Yoshi's
6Cafe on North Halsted, which offers a fusion of Asian and
7French cuisine; he and his wife, Nobuko, opened the restaurant
8in 1982, operating it for 33 years; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Yoshi Katsumura got his start cooking at the age
10of 20 with an apprenticeship under Iron Chef Hiroyuki Sakai in
11Tokyo; he moved to Chicago in 1973, working at Le Bastille, and
12then with Jean Banchet at La Francais; from 1978 to 1982, he
13presided over Jimmy's Place, which evolved into Jimmy and
14Yoshi's; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Yoshi Katsumura was named one of America's
16Outstanding Chefs; he received numerous accolades throughout
17the years; and
 
18    WHEREAS, One of Yoshi Katsumura's proudest moments was when
19Alderman Tom Tunney sponsored the renaming of the street his
20cafe was on as "Yoshi Katsumura Way"; and

1    WHEREAS, Yoshi Katsumura is survived by his wife, Nobuko;
2his children, Mari and Ken; his brother, Kazuhiro Katsumura;
3and his grandson, Hiro; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
6mourn the passing of Yoshi Katsumura, and extend our sincere
7condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
8him; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Yoshi Katsumura as an expression of
11our deepest sympathy.
