HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Michael Frank Chornak of Marion, who passed away on August 2, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Michael Chornak was born in Mount Vernon on August 19, 1958 to Frank and Mollie (nee Hogg) Chornak; he graduated from Marion High School in 1976, where he was a well-known pole vaulter; he received his degree in education, and later, his master's in administration from Southern Illinois University Carbondale; he married Kellie Winemiller; and

WHEREAS, Michael Chornak started his career teaching and coaching in Carterville; he then joined Marion High School as a health instructor and coach; he became the Marion athletic director in 1995; and

WHEREAS, Michael Chornak was a member of Second Baptist Church in Marion and also enjoyed attending First Baptist Church in Marion; his other memberships included the Southern Illinois Coaches Association and the Illinois Athletic Directors Association; he was elected the 2012-2013 Class 3A and 4A Division Athletic Director of the Year; he was a board member for the Marion Country Club and a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes; he started and sponsored the first bass fishing team at Marion High School; and

WHEREAS, Michael Chornak was an avid hunter and fisherman in his free time; he loved fishing in all of the lakes in Southern Illinois, but especially enjoyed traveling to Canada and Alabama to fish; he also enjoyed hunting deer at Wade Hudgens' farm and goose hunting at Pike's Hunting Club; he loved his friends and family and all of the fun they had camping, cooking out, going to St. Louis Cardinal baseball games and Holiday World, and just "hanging out"; and

WHEREAS, Michael Chornak was preceded in death by his parents, and aunts and uncles; and

WHEREAS, Michael Chornak is survived by his son, Collin; his daughter, Sydney; his sister, Kathy Dallas and her husband, Mark; his niece, Marcy Dallas; his nephew, Brax Dallas; his aunt, Clarebel Gray; and many cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Michael Frank Chornak, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Michael Chornak as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
