HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Corrine Mary Shipp on the
4occasion of her 100th birthday on September 6, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Corrine Shipp was born on September 6, 1915 in
6Buffalo Hart to Orville and Minnie (nee English) Artis; her
7twin sister, Lorrine, came 15 minutes later; along with her
8brothers, Ashley and D'Arcy, the family settled in Springfield;
9she and her sister attended Lincoln Public School and were
10among 3 African-Americans to graduate from Springfield High
11School in 1931; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Corrine Shipp married Archie Shipp in 1936 and
13they had 2 children, Donald in 1937 and Joyce Lynn in 1941; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Corrine Shipp worked for the State of Illinois for
15the Pardon and Parole Board for many years; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Corrine Shipp has always had music as a part of
17her life; early in life, she was part of a musical quartet, the
18J and A Melody Maids; she directed her church choir for many
19years and her children all played musical instruments; she is
20an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoys cowboy movies, crossword
21puzzles, and bowling; and

1    WHEREAS, Corrine Shipp has 5 granddaughters, Rachel,
2Sabrina, Marilyn, Asenath, Stacy, and many, many,
3great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
6congratulate Corrine Mary Shipp on her 100th birthday, and we
7wish her many more wonderful years; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to Corrine Shipp as an expression of our esteem and
10respect.
