HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, State Representative Monique D. Davis and the
3members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened
4to learn of the death of Joyce Ann "Aisha" Ingram, who passed
5away on July 8, 2015; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Aisha Ingram was born in Chicago on March 4, 1957
7to Eugene and Viola Handley; she attended Fernwood Elementary
8and graduated from Harlan High School in 1975; she married
9Walter "Mahir" Ingram on July 20, 1975; she earned her
10bachelor's degree in business education in May of 1990 and her
11master's degree in special education and teaching from Chicago
12State University in 1997; in August of 2004, she received her
13second master's degree in educational administration and her
14Type 75-Certification from Governors State University; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Aisha Ingram worked as a work study coordinator
16developing one of the largest work study programs in Chicago
17Public Schools; as a business finance educator and accounting
18teacher for over 20 years, she fostered relationships with
19businesses that offered employment opportunities to students
20who in turn loved her; she taught at Harlan High School, Simeon
21High School, Fenger High School, and Julian High School; she
22worked in and always served in leadership roles, including
23Department Chair of the Education to Career Department of Percy

1L. Julian High School, the Instructional Leadership Team for
2staff and curriculum development, teacher advocate of the
3Chicago Teachers Union, the Professional Personnel Leadership
4Committee, the National Foundation for Teaching
5Entrepreneurship, and the local school council; she sponsored
6annual business entrepreneurship student selling events,
7annual business employee-employer banquets, career technical
8education cooperative education luncheons, field trips, job
9shadowing, and internships; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Aisha Ingram fell in love with dance while in high
11school and started taking African dance classes; she later
12became a member of Muntu Dance Theater, performing with Muntu
13for over 20 years all over the world; she danced with Muntu in
14the 90s at the PanaFest in Ghana along with Public Enemy, Isaac
15Hayes, and Jermaine Jackson; she was also featured in the
16February of 1993 issue of Ebony Magazine in an article entitled
17"Professionals Who Moonlight as Entertainers"; she recently
18returned to Ghana in 2014 and was called to dance at the Cape
19Coast/Elmina Slave Castle; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Aisha Ingram was extremely creative and a master
21braider; she started her own hair braiding business to
22supplement her income; and
 
23    WHEREAS, Aisha Ingram was preceded in death by her mother,

1Viola Handley; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Aisha Ingram is survived by her father, Eugene
3Handley; her husband, Walter; her children, Tovis Ingram, Ari
4Ingram, and Micha'el Ingram; her brothers, Larry (Deborah)
5Handley and Kenneth (Angelia) Handley; her sister, "Khadeshah"
6Marianne Gray; her nephews, Rosh and Khalil Handley, Anthony
7and Christopher Peterson, Devoy Boyd, and Malawchee, Yosawn,
8Emawnuayl, and Ruvayn Gray; her nieces, Kinah Handley, La Dena
9Ingram, Karimiah (Awri) Mckee, and Y'Neekaw Gray; her
10granddaughter, Amariyah Ingram (Ari Ingram and Tangie Brooks);
11and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; therefore,
12be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
15mourn the passing of Joyce Ann "Aisha" Ingram, and extend our
16sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew
17and loved her; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Aisha Ingram as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
