HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate the Village of Ladd on the
4125th anniversary of its founding; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ladd was incorporated on June 7, 1890, taking its
6name from George D. Ladd of Peru; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Ladd was originally a construction camp settled in
81888 by workers from railroad companies that were extending
9track through the area to serve a grain elevator and coal mine;
10the Whitebreast Fuel Co. purchased 10,500 acres of land in
11eastern Bureau County in and around what would become
12present-day Ladd; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Ladd became a major railroad hub, shipping coal
14via rail to other parts of the country; the population surged
15to over 2,000 citizens by the 1920s; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Throughout the years, residents of Ladd have been
17resilient and have weathered the many problems that they have
18faced, including the Great Depression and World War II, and the
19village is still considered the "Magnificent Little Village";

1    WHEREAS, Today, Ladd is home to 1,295 citizens and is known
2for its fried chicken and prospering group of entrepreneurial
3businesses; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
6congratulate the Village of Ladd on the 125th anniversary of
7its founding and we wish them many more successful years; and
8be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the Village of Ladd as an expression of our esteem
11and respect.
