HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Stroke is a leading cause of death in the United
3States; hundreds of thousands of people suffer strokes
4annually; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Stroke is a brain attack that cuts off vital blood
6flow and oxygen to the brain; a stroke can happen to anyone at
7any time; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The National Stroke Association aims to reduce the
9impact and incidence of stroke through education and programs
10focused on prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and support
11for those impacted by stroke, as well as their family and
12friends; and
 
13    WHEREAS, The month of May is National Stroke Awareness
14Month in the United States; the goal is to make people aware
15that they may be able to save a life of a person experiencing a
16stroke; and
 
17    WHEREAS, The National Stroke Awareness program places
18emphasis on programs to make people recognize symptoms of
19stroke and encourage them to act FAST if someone is suffering a
20stroke; and

1    WHEREAS, National Stroke Awareness Month is a timely
2reminder of stroke survivors and organizations that support
3stroke survivors through their lifelong journey of recovery;
4and
 
5    WHEREAS, The State of Illinois encourages efforts to
6promote education about symptoms of stroke and the efforts to
7better education the public regarding stroke; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
10designate the month of May as Stroke Awareness and Prevention
11Month in the State of Illinois and recognize the work of
12advocacy by the National Stroke Association; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
14presented to Marylee Nunley, Executive Director of the Retreat
15and Refresh Stroke Camp, and the dedicated staff of the Stroke
16Camp for their work to improve the quality of life for stroke
17survivors, their families, and caregivers.
