HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Pastor Nathaniel L. Edmond and First Lady Christine Edmond on the occasion of their 15th anniversary with Second Baptist Church of Elgin; and

WHEREAS, Pastor Edmond was installed as pastor of Second Baptist Church of Elgin on February 20, 2000; and

WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Pastor Edmond, Second Baptist Church of Elgin has experienced tremendous growth; numerous ministries have been started, including the Young Adult Ministry, the Public Relations Ministry, the Prison Ministry, the Bus Ministry, the Information Technology Ministry, The Empowerment Ministry, the League of Military Veterans Ministry, and a street ministry entitled "Operation Joshua"; a second Sunday service and a mid-week service have been added; and

WHEREAS, Pastor Edmund led the church in celebration of the 140th anniversary of its founding in July of 2006; in March of 2008, the church received the Community Improvement Program Renovation Award from The Elgin Courier and the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce; and

WHEREAS, Pastor Edmond and First Lady Edmond joined the Illinois Commission on Diversity and Human Relations on a trip to Israel as "Peace Ambassadors", spending 8 days visiting historically significant and sacred sites; in October of 2006, they traveled to Africa as part of World Vision International to witness firsthand the effects AIDS/HIV has had on countries in that region; and

WHEREAS, Pastor Edmond was named to Sherman Hospital's Board of Directors, the first African-American with voting privileges, in August of 2007; he received an Honorary Doctorate of Sacred Theology from Judson University in December of 2010; and

WHEREAS, A celebration in honor of the Edmunds will be held on February 1, 2015; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Pastor Nathaniel L. Edmond and First Lady Christine Edmond on their 15th anniversary with Second Baptist Church of Elgin and wish them many more years of success; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Edmonds as an expression of our esteem and respect.
