HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Brianna Carey on receiving the 2015 Prudential Spirit of Community Award; and

WHEREAS, Brianna Carey, an esteemed resident of Geneva and a student at Geneva Community High School, has achieved national recognition for her exemplary volunteer service; and

WHEREAS, This prestigious award, presented by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, honors young volunteers across America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to serving their communities; and

WHEREAS, Brianna Carey earned this award by giving generously of her time and energy to founding a website to help teens all over the world with their emotional struggles called "A Cutter's Guardian Angel", which has grown into an organization that helps those in need via social media, the internet, and community events; she was motivated by her own experiences to found the site in 2012 and recently partnered with 3 other teens to help coordinate and expand the group, which is in the process of applying for nonprofit status; and

WHEREAS, The success of the State of Illinois, the strength of our communities, and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of young people like Brianna Carey who use their considerable talents and resources to serve others; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate and honor Brianna Carey as a recipient of the 2015 Prudential Spirit of Community Award; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we recognize Brianna Carey's outstanding record of volunteer service, peer leadership, and community spirit, and we extend best wishes for her continued success and happiness; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Brianna Carey as an expression of our esteem and respect.
