HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Olivet Nazarene University School of Music exists to cultivate the musical skills of student scholars and to encourage a life of service to others; and

WHEREAS, The music program is designed to complement a broad liberal arts education, provide the intensive professional training that aspiring musicians need, and meet the musical needs of the University, the community, and Olivet's educational region; and

WHEREAS, In the past 5 years, the Olivet Nazarene University School of Music has experienced unprecedented growth; the school consists of the 190-member Tiger Marching Band, 3 Concert Bands, 2 Orchestras, a Big Band, 2 Jazz Combos, 5 Choirs, more than 15 Chamber Ensembles, and over 500 students from all majors across campus who participate in music; and

WHEREAS, The 190-member Tiger Marching Band is the 5th largest university marching band in the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Olivet Nazarene University Music Education graduates have a 100% placement record; and

WHEREAS, The fall of 2013 marked the beginning of the iLearn@olivet initiative, making ONU School of Music an all-iPad program; and

WHEREAS, On January 19, 2015, the Olivet Nazarene University School of Music received the Apple Distinguished Program Award; Apple currently has only 17 programs with this designation; the ONU School of Music is the only undergrad music program to receive this award; and

WHEREAS, The Olivet Nazarene University Marching Band has been invited to march in the News Day Parade in London, England on January 1, 2016; only 12 bands from the United States are invited to participate in this parade each year; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor the Olivet Nazarene University School of Music for their distinguished accomplishments in music and their commitment to serving their community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Olivet Nazarene University School of Music.
