1 HOUSE RESOLUTION

2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Mt. Carmel
4 Middle School 8th grade boys basketball team on winning the
5 Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association
6 Class L State Championship; and

7     WHEREAS, The Junior Golden Aces defeated the Wildcats of
8 Marion in a hard-fought battle after a terrific season; and

9     WHEREAS, The Junior Golden Aces finished the regular season
10 with an impressive record of 15 wins and 6 losses; and

11     WHEREAS, Heading into the postseason, the Junior Golden
12 Aces knew they would be facing great teams, but that did not
13 stop their determination to win; they won the regional title
14 after beating Carmi and East Richland; in tournament play, they
15 overcame Murphysboro and pre-tournament favorite, West
16 Frankfort; and

17     WHEREAS, The championship game started off strong for the
18 Junior Golden Aces, but the Wildcats came back with a few good
19 runs and closed the gap to 1 point early in the third quarter;
20 the Junior Golden Aces never gave up and ultimately beat the
21 Wildcats 68-54; and

1     WHEREAS, This is the first boys State championship title in
2 the history of Mt. Carmel Middle School; and

3     WHEREAS, The hardworking members of the Mt. Carmel 8th
4 grade boys basketball team are Ashton Walker, Logan Durham,
5 Austin Rager, Bret Doan, Luke Gould, Brock Plassman, Jaden
6 Merritt, Zach Sutton, and Noah Singer; veteran coach Matt Leis
7 has led as head basketball coach for 14 years and Beau Belt is
8 the assistant coach; therefore, be it

9     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10 NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
11 congratulate the Mt. Carmel Junior Golden Aces 8th grade boys
12 basketball team on winning the Southern Illinois Junior High
13 School Athletic Association Class L State Championship and wish
14 them many more years of success; and be it further

15     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to the Mt. Carmel Junior Golden Aces as an expression
17 of our esteem and respect.
