HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate JoAnn Sullivan on the occasion of her retirement on December 31, 2016 after over 44 years of dedicated service as an Executive Assistant to Speaker Michael J. Madigan; and

WHEREAS, JoAnn Sullivan hopped in her car at a young age to travel from Bloomington to Springfield for a potential job opportunity at the State Capitol, intending to only stay at the job for a couple of years before pursuing other opportunities in California; and

WHEREAS, JoAnn Sullivan was hired to her short-planned position as an Executive Secretary on June 8, 1972; she was assigned to a few representatives, including Representative Michael J. Madigan from the southwest side of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, JoAnn Sullivan faithfully served Representative Madigan, assisting him as he rose in the ranks within the House Democratic Caucus from Representative to Leader to Speaker; and

WHEREAS, JoAnn Sullivan had a friendly smile for everyone who walked in her door, even if she had to be the bearer of bad news; and

WHEREAS, While JoAnn Sullivan worked throughout the years as an employee of the Speaker, she always considered him to be a part of her family; and

WHEREAS, While it is bittersweet to leave her work family, JoAnn Sullivan intends to enjoy many years with her other family whom she missed during the long session hours, including her mother, Erma McDaniel; her husband, Greg; her sons, Sean, Daniel, and Michael; and her grandchildren, Norah, Lydia, Maeve, and Hannah; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate JoAnn Sullivan on her retirement, thank her for her many years of dedicated service to the Illinois General Assembly and the people of the State of Illinois, and wish her many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to JoAnn Sullivan as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
