HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Troy D. VanAken Ph.D. on being inaugurated as the 14th President of Elmhurst College; and

WHEREAS, Dr. VanAken began his term as President on July 1, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Dr. VanAken has had an extensive and varied career, including experience as a senior administrator, mathematics professor, business entrepreneur, and athletic director; and

WHEREAS, Before coming to Elmhurst College, Dr. VanAken served as President and professor of mathematics at Thiel College; prior to his time at Thiel College, he served in a number of roles at Albion College; he began his career in higher education at the University of Evansville; and

WHEREAS, Dr. VanAken has served as a high school football and track coach; he has done committee work for the NCAA and collegiate athletic conferences; and

WHEREAS, Dr. VanAken is active in economic and community development; he started three successful technology-related companies; and

WHEREAS, Dr. VanAken is a native of Michigan; he and his wife, Dr. Annette VanAken, have two children; Trey and Gabriella; he holds a master's degree and a doctoral degree in mathematics from Bowling Green State University, and a Bachelor of Science from Hillsdale College; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Troy D. VanAken Ph.D. on being inaugurated as the 14th President of Elmhurst College; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. VanAken as an expression of our esteem and respect.
