HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to honor the life and legacy of Rolando
4Juan Correa; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Rolando Correa was born in Manati, Puerto Rico and
6moved to Chicago at age eight; overcoming the grim obstacles of
7urban disparity, he was awarded an ASPIRA scholarship to pursue
8higher education in Puerto Rico; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Rolando Correa proudly served in Vietnam with the
10United States Army as a door gunner, protecting medical
11helicopters as they evacuated wounded soldiers; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Rolando Correa managed one of the first
13registration campaign drives of Latino voters in Chicago; in
14the summer of 1980, during his tenure with the Puerto Rican
15Parade Committee, he followed the call to celebrate Puerto
16Rican arts and culture by bringing Las Fiestas Patronales to
17Humboldt Park; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Rolando Correa worked for the County of Cook, the
19City of Chicago, and the State of Illinois; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Rolando Correa, after more than 43 combined years

1as a co-founder, staff member, and board member, was appointed
2Executive Director in 2005 and President and CEO in 2013 of
3Rincon Family Services; under his leadership, the
4organizational budget, staff, and community presence through
5acquisition of new facilities more than doubled in the last
6three years; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Rolando Correa and his wife of 44 years, Graciela,
8have two children, Rolando Jr. and Cristina, and five
9grandchildren; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Rolando Correa will be remembered fondly for his
11dedication to creating an environment of respect and compassion
12for all he encountered, his commitment to the city's most
13vulnerable populations, and his role as a devoted guardian of
14the communities he loved; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
17honor the life and legacy of Rolando Juan Correa and pay
18tribute to his work in the City of Chicago and beyond; and be
19it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Rolando Juan Correa as a symbol of
22our esteem and respect.
