HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize the 50th anniversary of the Streamwood Park District; and

WHEREAS, In 1966, a referendum was passed by voters creating the Streamwood Park District, and soon after, the first meeting of the newly elected Streamwood Park District Board of Commissioners was held; those commissioners were Merle A. Bonora Jr. (President), Donald R. Bruhms, Eileen Lewandowski, J. Douglas McDonald, and Hal Slater (Vice-President); and

WHEREAS, In the late 1970s, a contest was conducted by the Streamwood Park District to offer residents an opportunity to rename a park in honor of the Village of Streamwood's 25th anniversary; LaSalle Park was renamed "Anniversary Park" and Miller-McCool Park was renamed "Kiddie Corner Park"; other parks had minor name changes; and

WHEREAS, In 1974, Gertrude Odlum donated the one-room schoolhouse on her property to the Streamwood Park District; in 1975, the schoolhouse was moved to its location on Parkside Circle and the Bicentennial Commission took charge of its restoration; in 1976, the Streamwood Historical Society was born; in 1991, the schoolhouse was moved again to the Hoosier Grove Campus; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the history of the Streamwood Park District, the board of commissioners and the staff have always strived to provide the best product and services to area residents; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the 50th anniversary of the Streamwood Park District and we wish it many more years of success; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Streamwood Park District Executive Director Dennis Stein.
