HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize the 50th anniversary of the
4Poplar Creek Public Library District; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The Poplar Creek Public Library was founded in
61966 in two garages, one being fiction, the other being
7nonfiction; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The Poplar Creek Library was originally located in
9a storefront; between the years of 1969 and 1975, it increased
10to four storefronts, and the number of hours it was open
11increased to 66 hours per week; and
 
12    WHEREAS, After the Poplar Creek Library converted to a
13district, it began offering services to Hanover Park; one year
14later, construction began for a new building located on Park
15Avenue; in 1980, the library became a government depository for
16federal and State documents; and
 
17    WHEREAS, In 1991, a modular unit became the branch in
18Hanover Park; in 2006, it was named the Sonya Crawshaw Branch
19in honor of the late President of Hanover Park; and
 
20    WHEREAS, A referendum was passed in 2007 to enlarge the

1main library to its current size; the new library was opened in
22009; its modern design has won architecture awards and been
3used in the popular television series, "Empire", as a location
4setting; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The 50th anniversary celebration of the Poplar
6Creek Public Library District will be held on September 24,
72016 at the Poplar Creek Public Library; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
10wish to recognize the 50th anniversary of the Poplar Creek
11Public Library District and wish it many more successful years;
12and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to Candace McCreary, President of the Poplar Creek
15Public Library District.
