HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the members of the Goreville High School Blackcats boys baseball team on the occasion of their IHSA Class 1A championship victory; and

WHEREAS, After impressive victories at the Regionals, Sectionals, and Super-Sectionals, the Blackcats rallied from seven runs down in the fourth inning to beat Somonauk 17-7 at Dozer Park and win their first State championship; the Blackcats scored 14 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game in walk-off fashion after trailing 7-0; the team ended the season with a phenomenal 28-6 record and set a school record for wins in a season; and

WHEREAS, The 17 runs scored by the Blackcats in their victory over Somonauk set a Class 1A record and were the second-most ever in an IHSA State title game; the team also set over 20 records at the State tournament, including the most runs by any team at the State tournament since the IHSA went to its current four-class system; and

WHEREAS, The members of the Goreville High School boys baseball team are Blaine Dunning, Nolan Vaughn, Chase Ward, Jared Vaughn, Logan Verble, Brendon Davis, Caleb Murley, Tyler Pritchett, Brant Glidewell, Braden Webb, Grant Venus, Chance Duringer, Zane Schuetz, Peyton Geyman, Logyn Frassato, Peyton Massey, Connor Johnson, and Brodie Lenon; the Blackcats are coached by head coach, Shawn Tripp and assistant coaches, Bryan Webb and Kenton Parmley; and

WHEREAS, The Goreville High School Blackcats serve as models of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the members of the Goreville High School Blackcats boys baseball team on the occasion of their IHSA Class 1A championship victory and wish them continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Goreville High School Blackcats as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
