HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Dr. Alice Marie Jacobs on
4the occasion of her retirement as President of Danville Area
5Community College; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dr. Alice Jacobs became the sixth President and
7only the second female leader of Danville Area Community
8College in September of 1999; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Dr. Alice Jacobs, Danville
10Area Community College has been a leader in workforce
11development, reallocating resources to add new locally
12in-demand programs in Health Professions and Manufacturing; as
13a result of good stewardship and program growth, Dr. Jacobs has
14expanded and renovated campus facilities and established the
15Higher Learning Center in Hoopeston to better meet the needs of
16residents in the northern part of the college district; local
17partnerships have been strengthened, particularly those with
18area K-12 districts and the Regional Superintendent's office;
19the college was also named a Leader College in Achieving the
20Dream and has undergone two successful major gift campaigns for
21support of DACC students and programs; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Dr. Alice Jacobs has served on the American

1Association of Community Colleges Board and its Executive
2Committee; she was co-chair of Governor Bruce Rauner's
3Education Policy Transition Committee; she is a member of the
4Illinois Board of Higher Education and Chair of the Illinois
5Community College Presidents Council; she served as President
6of the North Central Association of Two-Year Colleges and the
7Danville Noon Rotary; she served as Chair of the Danville
8United Way Campaign and first Chair of the Vermilion Advantage
9Board; she also served as President of the Danville Symphony
10Board; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Dr. Alice Jacobs has received numerous awards and
12recognitions, including the 2002 Rotary Vocational Service
13Award, the 2003 Green Meadow Girl Scouts Council Woman of
14Distinction Award, the 2007 Woman of Achievement Award from the
15American Association of University Women, the 2008 Elks
16Distinguished Citizenship Award, the 2009 Outstanding Service
17Award from the Illinois Association of Regional
18Superintendents of Schools, the 2010 Golden Ruler Award from
19the Regional Office of Education, and the 2015 Visionary Award
20from the Eastern Illinois Community Action Agency; her
21leadership skills were also recognized by the Association of
22Community College Trustees in 2007 with the Central Region's
23Outstanding CEO Award; and
 
24    WHEREAS, Following her retirement, Dr. Alice Jacobs plans

1to continue her service to community colleges on the State and
2national levels through her involvement with the Illinois Board
3of Higher Education and as a Peer Reviewer through the Higher
4Learning Commission; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
7congratulate Dr. Alice Marie Jacobs on the occasion of her
8retirement and wish her continued success and happiness in the
9future; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to Dr. Alice Jacobs as a symbol of our esteem and
12respect.
