HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Peg Kopec on being selected as a member of the 2016 class of the National Federation of State High School Association (NFHS) Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, Peg Kopec coached 42 seasons of volleyball for the Spartans of St. Francis High School in Wheaton; and

WHEREAS, Peg Kopec taught her athletes lessons about hard work, dedication, and accountability that will continue to serve them throughout their lives; she embodies what a high school coach should be; and

WHEREAS, Peg Kopec consistently built strong teams that worked together to achieve remarkable accomplishments; she fostered a love of volleyball in her athletes that led to over 90 of them playing at the collegiate level; and

WHEREAS, Peg Kopec and her teams won 84% of their games and she amassed a career record of 1,238 wins, 229 losses, and two ties; and

WHEREAS, Peg Kopec is the winningest coach of any sport in Illinois High School Association history; and

WHEREAS, Peg Kopec coached the St. Francis Spartans to 12 State championships overall, concluding with four consecutive State championships from 2012 to 2015; and

WHEREAS, Peg Kopec is only the eighth Illinois High School Association coach enshrined in the NFHS Hall of Fame and the first female coach; and

WHEREAS, Peg Kopec's career began in 1972 and concluded with her retirement in November of 2015; her accolades include induction into the Illinois Coaches Association Hall of Fame, being named Coach of the Year by both the National High School Coaches Association and the NFHS, and being selected to the Chicago Sky's Title IX Team in 2012; and

WHEREAS, Peg Kopec will be honored at an enshrinement ceremony banquet on July 2, 2016 as part of the 2016 NFHS Summer Meeting in Reno, Nevada; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Peg Kopec on being selected as a member of the 2016 class of the National Federation of State High School Association Hall of Fame; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Peg Kopec as an expression of our esteem and respect.
