HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The work of Illinois government requires constant efforts from many unrecognized individuals who keep the proverbial wheels of state turning; and

WHEREAS, The work of one such individual, Cheryl Waak, who, for 21 years has served the House of Representatives with intelligence and grace, certainly deserves our praise today, the final day of her duty to the House; and

WHEREAS, Cheryl Waak began her political activism in 1992 and began working for Illinois State Representative Dave Winters in 1995; she worked with Representative Winters until he resigned his position in August of 2012, at which time she began working for newly-appointed State Representative John M. Cabello; former Representative Winters has said that she was exceptional at working with various agencies and has a sterling reputation for getting things done for each Representative's constituency; and

WHEREAS, Prior to working as a Legislative Assistant, Cheryl Waak worked for 10 years as a teacher's aide in a computer class, where she taught countless children and was considered a surrogate mother to many of her students; she was also a Parent Teacher Organization President for many years; and

WHEREAS, Cheryl Waak is a deeply spiritual woman and is heavily involved with Bethesda Covenant Church, where she sits on the Women's Leadership team; and

WHEREAS, Cheryl Waak met her husband, Charles "Chuck" Waak, at a school dance in 1963 and began dating in 1964; Chuck and Cheryl were married by her father on November 18, 1967; the couple has been married for 48 years and together have three children, Jason, Robert, and Karyn, and eight grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Cheryl Waak serves as a model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Cheryl Waak on the occasion of her retirement and wish her continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Cheryl Waak as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
