HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Mary
4Ellen Dorris of West Frankfort, who passed away on May 17,
52016; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Mary Ellen Dorris was born in West Frankfort to
7Obed Barton and Hal (Karnes) Hayes on January 11, 1931; she
8graduated from Frankfort Community High School in 1948 and
9Southern Illinois University Carbondale; she married Kenneth
10L. Dorris in West Frankfort on November 27, 1952; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Mary Ellen Dorris was a dedicated teacher; she
12taught at Thompsonville High School for five years and then at
13West Frankfort Community High School for many years until her
14retirement in 1993; she enjoyed her farm life and was always
15busy managing her home and seeing to the needs of her family;
16and
 
17    WHEREAS, Mary Ellen Dorris was an active member of the
18First Baptist Church of West Frankfort, where she was a Sunday
19school teacher and served in the church nursery for many years;
20she also was a supporter of the church's clothing room and
21enjoyed visiting with her church family; she was well versed in
22many subjects and was a natural trivia buff; she loved her

1grandchildren and was always interested in all of their many
2activities, always enjoying the times they shared together at
3her home; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Mary Ellen Dorris was preceded in death by her
5husband of 51 years, Kenneth, and her parents; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Mary Ellen Dorris is survived by three sons and
7daughters-in-law, Jeff and Susan Dorris, Doug and Michelle
8Dorris, and Tim and Judy Dorris; her granddaughter, Megan
9Dorris; her grandsons, Seth, Brock, Nathan, Jacob, and Benny
10Dorris; her half-sister, Toni Lucas; her half-brother, Jim
11Hayes; other extended family; and many friends; therefore, be
12it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
15mourn the passing of Mary Ellen Dorris, and extend our sincere
16condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
17her; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Mary Ellen Dorris as an expression
20of our deepest sympathy.
