HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize the career and dedication to public safety of Addison Fire Protection District Chief, Donald E. Markowski; and

WHEREAS, Chief Markowski has dedicated his career to public safety and the firefighter profession; and

WHEREAS, Chief Markowski served over 26 years on the Glenside Fire Protection District, including 12 years as Chief Officer and three as Fire Chief; and

WHEREAS, Chief Markowski has served as the Chief Negotiator for all labor contracts, representing both the fire district and the union, always reaching agreements without the need for mediation or arbitration; and

WHEREAS, Chief Markowski was elected to serve as President of the Illinois Fire District Employee Cooperative Insurance Program, which consists of ten fire districts and insures 455 lives; and

WHEREAS, Chief Markowski has served as past President and Vice-President of the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association; and

WHEREAS, In 2008, Chief Markowski became the Chief of the Addison Fire Protection District, which protects over 41,000 residents and employs a staff of 75; and

WHEREAS, Chief Markowski has worked diligently to protect the residents of Addison Township, as well as the firefighters who serve; and

WHEREAS, Chief Markowski will be retiring on June 1, 2016 after a long and distinguished career dedicated to protecting the lives and property of his neighbors; and

WHEREAS, Chief Markowski was awarded the Fire Chief of the Year Award by the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association for 2016; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the career and dedication to public safety of Addison Fire Protection District Chief, Donald E. Markowski; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Chief Markowski as an expression of our esteem and respect.
