HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Betsy Coulture of Elgin on being named the 2016 Altrusa Woman of the Year; and

WHEREAS, The local Altrusa Woman of the Year Award began in 1950 when Harriet Armstrong was recognized as the first recipient; since then, a long line of dedicated, local women have been honored for their volunteer service to the greater Elgin area community; Altrusa International of Elgin, Illinois Inc., founded in 1936, is an international service organization comprised of executive and professional women; and

WHEREAS, Betsy Coulture has been actively involved in a variety of Elgin organizations, including the Elgin Community Network, the Northeast Neighbors Association, where she served as President, and the Elgin Historic Preservation Commission; she has been an active member of Admirers of Beautiful Old Dwelling in Elgin, a docent with the Gifford Park Association's Historic House Tour, and a volunteer with the Downtown Neighborhood Association, the Elgin Fourth of July Parade, the Elgin Fox Trot, and the Community Thanksgiving Dinner; and

WHEREAS, In 2012, Betsy Coulture received the "Women of Grace & Dignity" True Grit award honoring "Women in the Workplace"; and

WHEREAS, Betsy Coulture is a familiar smiling face at Paul's Family Restaurant in Elgin, where she is a well-known and beloved server on the early morning shift; she attends First Congregational Church of Elgin and enjoys gardening; and

WHEREAS, Betsy Coulture has two sons, Brandon and David; a daughter-in-law, Kelly; and one grandson, Carter "Peanut"; and

WHEREAS, Betsy Coulture will be honored at the 67th annual Woman of the Year Recognition Dinner on May 19, 2016 at Villa Olivia Country Club in Bartlett; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Betsy Coulture on being named the 2016 Altrusa Woman of the Year; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Betsy Coulture as an expression of our esteem and respect.
