HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize Daniel Dennis of Lake County on qualifying for the 2016 United States Olympic Wrestling Team; and

WHEREAS, Daniel Dennis is a graduate of Grant Community High School in Fox Lake, where he was a two-time State finalist Illinois High School Association wrestler; he compiled a record of 153 wins and 28 losses and set numerous records; and

WHEREAS, Daniel Dennis attended the University of Iowa, where he was a two-time All-American wrestler and winner of the Midlands Championships in 2008; and

WHEREAS, Daniel Dennis left wrestling in 2012 after college; he coached at Windsor High School in California before being encouraged to return to competition by his fellow coaches and the students he mentored; and

WHEREAS, Daniel Dennis was the runner-up at the 2015 U.S. World Team Trials; and

WHEREAS, Being spurred on by the encouragement of friends, coaches, and family, Daniel Dennis won the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in freestyle wrestling at 57 kg (125.5 lbs.) by a 10-0 technical fall; and

WHEREAS, Daniel Dennis will represent the United States of America at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize Daniel Dennis on being named to the 2016 U.S. Olympic Wrestling Team; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Daniel Dennis as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
