HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Heartland Community College in Normal on the occasion of its 25th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, Heartland Community College was named by residents of the district in 1991, and Dr. Jonathan M. Astroth was named its first President; and

WHEREAS, The first 811 Heartland Community College students were enrolled in the fall of 1991 and attended classes in high schools, churches, and numerous other facilities throughout the district; and

WHEREAS, The communities of Pontiac and Lincoln were served by Heartland Community College through the establishment of sites in each city; and

WHEREAS, United States Senator Paul Simon addressed the inaugural Heartland Community College graduating class; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois General Assembly approved funds for a permanent campus location on Raab Road in Normal in 1998; the permanent campus opened in the fall of 2000; and

WHEREAS, Over 5,000 students now pursue credit programs of study; 14,000 residents access programs of personal and professional enrichment; and

WHEREAS, Heartland Community College has, throughout its growth, incorporated methods and planning that promoted environmental stewardship and supported sustainable and renewable resources; and

WHEREAS, Regional businesses and organizations rely on Heartland Community College's customized training programs to support their workforce needs; and

WHEREAS, Heartland Community College serves students from grade school ages through active seniors; and

WHEREAS, Heartland Community College proudly serves the community by preparing thousands for personal and academic success; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Heartland Community College on its 25th anniversary and we wish them many more successful years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Heartland Community College President Rob Widmer as an expression of our esteem and respect.
