HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Amicus Poloniae - the Friend of Polonia - Volunteer Free Legal Clinic celebrates its 25th anniversary of offering free legal help to low-income members of the Polish community in Chicago in October of 2015; and

WHEREAS, The Amicus Poloniae volunteer attorneys meet at 5711 North Milwaukee Avenue on Chicago's northwest side in the Alliance Building on the third Saturday of each month to advise people on their legal problems; and

WHEREAS, The Amicus Poloniae were inspired by other ethnic groups throughout Chicago that provide legal help to individuals that would normally be unable to afford to hire an attorney for legal work, advice, or to accompany them to a court room; and

WHEREAS, On average 10 to 20 attorneys volunteer to help up to 60 clients each month; aid is given on civil matters that include immigration, probate, elder law, social security, housing, employment, foreclosure, and retirement among other types of cases; and

WHEREAS, Since 1990 Amicus Poloniae has been sponsored by the Polish National Alliance; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we congratulate Amicus Poloniae - the Friend of Polonia - Volunteer Free Legal Clinic as it celebrates its 25th anniversary in October of 2015 and we thank them for their dedication to the community and their commitment to public service; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Amicus Poloniae as an expression of our esteem and respect.
