SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
410 ILCS 620/28 new

    Amends the Illinois Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act. Prohibits any person or business from selling or offering to sell any cleaning product that contains triclosan and is used by consumers for sanitizing or hand or body cleansing. Provides that this prohibition does not apply to individual products for which specific United States Food and Drug Administration approval for consumer use has been secured. Provides that each violation of this prohibition is a business offense with a fine of $10,000.

1    AN ACT concerning health.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act is
5amended by adding Section 28 as follows:
 
6    (410 ILCS 620/28 new)
7    Sec. 28. Certain sales of cleaning products prohibited. No
8person or business shall sell or offer to sell any cleaning
9product that contains triclosan and is used by consumers for
10sanitizing or hand or body cleansing. This prohibition shall
11not apply to individual products for which specific United
12States Food and Drug Administration approval for consumer use
13has been secured. Each violation of this prohibition is a
14business offense with a fine of $10,000.
