HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Sister Mattie Virginia Wilson of Alton on her participation in the "Celebrate an Elder Ministry Program" at the Greater St. James Baptist Church in Alton; and

WHEREAS, Sister Wilson is 89 years old and celebrated her birthday on May 25, 2011; she was born in Jackson, Tennessee to Boyd and Daisy Snipes; and

WHEREAS, Sister Wilson was married to Jim Wilson for 54 years until his passing; together they raised George (Eva) Wilson, Daisy Logan, Jimmie (Lillie) Wilson, Roosevelt Wilson, Robert Wilson, Larry Wilson, Catherine Luster, Edward Wilson, Richard (Joann) Wilson, Sandra Wilson, and Mark (Leslie) Wilson; and

WHEREAS, She has 38 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and 28 great-great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, She has been active in the Senior Choir, Baptismal Committee, Sunday School program, and Communion Committee at St. James Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, Sister Wilson is one of the most respected and admired women in the City of Alton and is affectionately known as "Mom"; she enjoyed singing, cooking, and teaching her Sunday School class; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Sister Mattie Wilson on her achievements and wish her continued good health and happiness; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Sister Mattie Wilson as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
