HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Jordan Cotler and Adam Kalinich for their success in the Intel Science Talent Search; and

WHEREAS, The Intel Science Talent Search is America's most prestigious pre-college science competition, with nearly 2,000 of the nation's most elite students competing for the $100,000 grand prize; and

WHEREAS, Jordan Cotler, a Northbrook resident, is currently a senior at Glenbrook North High School; he came in 10th place and won an award of $20,000; his project involves a new method of encrypting fiber-optic and satellite communications using quantum mechanics and relativity; in his spare time, he is a professional magician who has patented magic tricks he has invented and sold to magicians worldwide; and

WHEREAS, Adam Kalinich, a Glen Ellyn resident, currently studies at the Illinois Math and Science Academy in Aurora; he was one of 40 finalists and won an award of $7,500; his project explores the complexity of determining a winner in "poset games", strategy games for 2 players which involve a "partially ordered set" of elements with varying values; his results for general poset games were published in a mathematical journal; and

WHEREAS, In order for the State of Illinois and the United States of America to retain and expand upon our position as economic and research leaders, our population requires individuals who attain world-class achievements in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, such as those attained by Jordan Cotler and Adam Kalinich; and

WHEREAS, Jordan Cotler and Adam Kalinich serve as models of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Jordan Cotler and Adam Kalinich for their success in the Intel Science Talent Search and wish them success and happiness in their future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to Jordan Cotler and Adam Kalinich as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
